The Dupont Youth Baseball Organization’s “Under the Lights” celebration will end the year with a baseball game and party beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13. The night begins with two featured games under the lights with player introductions.

During the party, each player will receive their trophy for the season. Free ice cream and a hot dog truck will be available to all children in attendance.

Dupont Youth Baseball Organization has scheduled its fourth annual cornhole tournament to raise funds for the Dupont Softball Tournament Fundraising Charity. The cornhole event will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at the Dupont Baseball Field. Donation is $20 per man/$40 per team. Bring your own boards if you have them. Prizes will be determined by the amount of entries. Rules and schedules will be posted the day of the event.

Crime Watch meeting

Dupont Crime Watch will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at the municipal office.

Dupont Crime Watch will participate in the National Night Out along with Avoca and Duryea Crime Watch groups from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Healey Playground in Duryea.

Holy Mother of Sorrows YMS of R barbecue

YMS of R Branch No. 2 of Holy Mother of Sorrows Polish National Catholic Church will sponsor its 55th annual open pit chicken barbecue at the parish grounds Saturday, July 14. Menu will include half a barbecue chicken, coleslaw, french fries, roll and beverage. Serving will be from noon to 6 p.m. Dinner is $12 per person.

Holy Mother of Sorrows summer Mass schedule

Holy Mother of Sorrows will celebrate only one Mass on Sundays during June. The Mass will be held at 9 a.m.

Sacred Heart news

Renovations are underway at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. During renovations, weekend Masses will be celebrated in the church hall. Weekday Masses will be in the cemetery chapel.

Funerals will be celebrated in the cemetery chapel unless the attendance is too large. Then, the family will be given the option of celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial in the church hall or in another parish of the deanery.

Confessions, baptisms and other sacraments will be celebrated in the church hall.

Sacred Heart will hold a picnic meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, in the school. Anyone interested in volunteering for the picnic is asked to contact Sheryl Ziobro at 570-954-0267.

Theme baskets are being accepted for this year’s picnic. Baby themed baskets, pets, entertainment, lottery trees and summertime fun baskets are needed. You get the idea, the theme possibilities are endless! Baskets can be dropped off in the church from 8:30 a.m. to noon Mondays to Fridays, as well as before and after weekend Masses.

Also, non-perishable foods and paper goods are being collected for the poplar food basket stand.

Suggested items that are needed include: canned goods such as soups, vegetables, fruits, tuna, etc., ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce, peanut butter and jelly, gelatin, pudding, cake and cookie mixes, pasta, rice, coffee and tea. Other options include tin foil, plastic wrap, baggies and paper towels. Donations can be brought to the church during the same hours listed for basket drop-off.

The Holy Name Society of Sacred Heart will hold its Corporate Communion at the 8:30 Mass on Sunday, June 17.

Sacred Heart Legion of Mary will pray an outdoor rosary at 6:30 p.m. the 13th of each month during the summer months, weather permitting. The ceremony will be conducted by the statue of Mary at the side yard of the church. All are invited.

Sacred Heart maintains a list of homebound parishioners who, because of illness or advanced age, are unable to attend Mass. A church member will visit them monthly on the first Friday of the month to offer prayers and distribute Holy Communion. If you are a homebound parishioner, or you know such a parishioner, and would like regular monthly visits, please contact the parish secretary, Kathy, at the parish office so your name can be added to the list. The Pastoral Outreach Apostolate will then contact you once plans have been arranged for home visitation.

Lions food distribution

Dupont Lions monthly food distribution will be held at Holy Mother of Sorrows from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at the parish hall. All qualifying residents of Dupont and Suscon are eligible.
